The KBEA Scholarship Committee has selected four scholarship recipients. Each of the following students will receive $500 to use for their education:
- Nolan Bunting, Homer High School – Nolan plans to attend Colorado State University, majoring in Zoology; he’d like to pursue a career in veterinary pathology.
- Abbie Carter, Soldotna High School – Abbie plans to attend University of Alaska Fairbanks to pursue a master’s degree in Geological Engineering.
- Kyle Hastings, Soldotna High School – Kyle plans to attend University of Alaska Kenai River Campus, then the Anchorage Campus, pursuing a degree in Radiologic Technology, and eventually completing the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
- Catelynn Hettick, Seward High School – Catelynn will attend the University of Alaska Anchorage to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Students are selected not only upon their academic achievement, but also upon their extracurricular activities, community involvement, work experience, personal references, essay and financial plan. The committee looks for students who are well-rounded citizens with great potential.
This year we received 18 compete applications from graduating seniors on the Kenai Peninsula. Reviewing the applications and selecting recipients is difficult and time consuming. I’d like to thank Lori Johnson (Capital Projects), Ben Gardner (GIS) and Cody Stratman (IT) for serving on this committee.
